With gas prices sky high most individuals who drive are interested in ways they can make their car more fuel efficient and save as much money as possible. While there are no fuel saving tips that will keep your car full of gas without filling up, there are some tips that really can help you save money on fuel over the long run. All of these tips focus on making your car more fuel efficient.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #1 Drive When You Crank Up
This might seem obvious, but as soon as you crank up your car you should drive off. However, many people crank up and leave the car idling for a while. Instead of this, when you crank up drive off and only keep your car running when it is absolutely necessary.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #2 Don’t Ride the Break
Many drivers hit the break more often than is necessary. Additionally there are quite a few drivers that slow down for a braking car when they could easily switch lanes. Not riding the break can increase your fuel efficiency by up to 30%, so this is a great tip you should follow.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #3 Turn Off Your Car
If you are going to be stopping for more than 10 minutes you should switch off your car to keep fuel efficiency at its peak and not burn more gas than is necessary.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #4 Don’t Turn Off Your Car
If you are only stopping for a brief moment or less than 5 minutes then don’t turn off your car because the amount of gas used to crank up is more than you would burn in that short period of time.
Fuel Efficiency Tip #5 Inflate Tires Properly
Too many drivers never think of their tires, unless one goes flat. However, having tires that are properly inflated can save fuel and make your car more fuel efficient, saving you money. Because of this, you should check your tire pressure on a regular basis.
While gas prices don’t seem like they will be dipping considerably in the next few months every tip to help you make your car more fuel efficient is helpful. So, follow the above fuel tips and you will see that over time your car really is more fuel efficient.
If you have a child, you know how easily their bedrooms can get out of control. Toys strewn about, clothes out of drawers, books on the floor; it can almost be a hazard sometimes just to enter. But getting your child’s room organized can be rewarding and fun, especially if your child is actively involved in the process.
Never attempt it without their permission, input and most importantly their active participation. Don’t surprise your child and go ahead and organize their room for them. Just as you expect your privacy and possessions to be respected, so should theirs.
Teach your child as soon as possible the importance of keeping their room tidy and orderly, so they’ll have a strong appreciation for neatness and order as they grow. With a little patience and cooperation, even the youngest can be taught this habit early on, simply by learning how to put toys and other belongings like books and art supplies away after use.
When organizing your child’s room, make sure it’s fun and creative, so they are interested in maintaining it. And as we all know, children grow and change rapidly, so their rooms should have the room to grow with them. Make sure your organizational method has room to grow and change as well. And above all, make sure you get their ideas about what they think will work the best for them. Make sure that all their favorites are well within reach and easy to put away.
Place things that they use on an infrequent basis on the top shelves in their closet, and devise a workable system for hanging and organizing clothes and grouping favorite outfits together. When it comes time to put laundry away, ask if they need your help, but try to give them the space when possible to do it themselves, and it will grow into a good habit as they grow older. Hanging storage closet systems are ideal for kids. They are bright and colorful and are able to contain closet items in a way that enhances visibility for a child. Designed with roomy pockets they hold an array of shoes, toys, and clothes, and hang over any standard closet rod. Their front openings make it simple and quick for any child to use.
Also consider a desk with drawers or other filing system for your child’s school work, art work, awards, report cards, and other papers. There are many brightly-colored and durable storage bins, desks and organizers available for your child’s room, so take them shopping with you so you can both select the best option.
And most importantly, keep your room neat and organized, and maintain it on a daily basis. Don’t expect your child to maintain a nice, tidy room if you’re not doing the same. The best teacher is your example.
Perchloroethylene, better known as perc, is used by 80 percent of dry cleaners in the United States as a solvent to wash clothes that are “dry clean only.” Despite its effectiveness, the use of this chemical has been linked to a range of health side effects and has recently come under heavy public scrutiny. With heavy regulation from the Environmental Protection Agency, professional dry cleaners are seeking the use of a safer chemical—liquid carbon dioxide—to provide a green laundry alternative. At-home dry cleaning kits such as Dry Cleaner’s Secret are providing the option of affordable & environmentally safe dry cleaning, that cuts down the energy-burning, waste producing processes that the professionals use.
The first step to green dry cleaning is replacing harmful chemicals with natural cleaning products. Perchloroethylene (perc) is a synthetic chemical that is made from a reaction between ethylene and chlorine. Like many synthetic chemicals, it poses a threat to our health. Perc is a central nervous system depressant. Exposure to it can occur in the workplace or in the environment when it is released into air, water, land, or groundwater. It can also occur when people use products containing perc, spend time in dry cleaning facilities that use perc, live above or adjacent to these dry cleaning facilities, or bring dry cleaned garments into their home before they are properly aired out. Short-term contact can cause dizziness, headaches, nausea, and irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat, while long term exposure poses greater threats, including liver and kidney damage and cancer.
Liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) appears to be the most practical green dry cleaning solvent to replace perchloroethylene. It is cheap, abundant, naturally occurring and can even be recycled from the industrial wastes from the manufacture of chemicals such as ammonia. Most importantly, exposure to carbon dioxide has no health side effects. The only drawbacks for dry cleaning with CO2 are that it does not clean as well as perc does and the machinery needed to use it is very expensive, thus a higher price is past on to the consumer.
A virtue of environmentalism is moderation. That being said, green dry cleaning is best achieved if you do not dry clean at all or limit the use of professional dry cleaning by using at-home dry cleaning kits for garments with smaller spots and stains or that need to be freshened. Professional dry cleaning is a large process that uses a lot of energy and produces a lot of waste in the form of powder residue, sludge and wastewater. If the dry cleaner is still using perc (it is still allowed in most states), these substances are hazardous. At-home dry cleaning involves no more than a Dry Cleaner’s Secret cleaning cloth and your dryer. There are no harmful chemicals involved and no waste.
While perc remains the most effective dry cleaning solvent, the use of natural cleaning products and at-home dry cleaning can only be beneficial to our health and our environment.
Flowering landscape trees are the crown jewels of the yard. Perhaps no other plants, individually, can have as great an impact on how a yard looks in spring. Browse the articles to which I’ve linked below for information on particular varieties of flowering landscape trees. Pictures are included.
Crape Myrtles: Landscape Trees of the South
A popular choice in flowering landscape trees for Southerners, crape myrtles have a long blooming period (mid-summer to fall). The blooming clusters of these flowering landscape trees come in pink, white, red and lavender. The clusters appear on the tips of new wood. Northerners can sometimes get away with treating these flowering landscape trees as perennials that die back in winter but come back in spring.
Not all specimens with a weeping habit are flowering landscape trees, but this article looks at several weeping
varieties that do bloom, headed by four types of cherry.
The size and shape of the blooms are what suggested the common name for these flowering landscape trees. Want a
specimen with a brilliant bloom as big as a saucer? Access information on these beauties here.
Rose of Sharon
Although some people think of it as a landscape “tree” (because it gets tall and can be pruned so as to have a single
trunk), rose of sharon is, in fact, a flowering shrub. The fact that it blooms relatively late and for a long time makes it a valuable plant for those looking to distribute their yard’s color display throughout the growing season.
Top 10 List of Flowering Landscape Trees and Shrubs for Spring |
This article features information on ten flowering landscape trees and shrubs that brighten our spring seasons. Included are redbud, callery pear and crabapple.
Hawthorn: Late-Blooming Landscape Trees
This article offers information on Washington hawthorn trees, which are perhaps most valued for the time at which they bloom (late spring to early summer). Many of the popular flowering specimens bloom earlier in the spring, and while their blossoms are pleasant sights for eyes sore from winter’s barrenness, they desert us too quickly!
When starting a new home improvement project this is a time to rope the whole family into it! So what if it is just a new coat of paint on the walls, this is the time for friends and families to get together and have a good time. Yes you can have a good time redecorating! Home improvements can be carried out by anyone, male or female, young or old! Obviously don’t let children do too much work; otherwise you will get done for slave labour, and ye,s I am only joking.
You will get complaint after complaint after complaint from everyone when asking for help, and no doubt you will hear the most ridiculous excuses of all time but just play the guilt trip on them and they are sure to come around. A home improvement project is a big task and you will need lots of help, and you should not have to pay the extortionate rates that some professionals will charge. Your friends and especially your family should be right in there helping you along!
A home improvement project can be anything, from a simple slap of paint or a full blown heating system exchange! All home improvements are a big job no matter how small and should all be carried out with care and consideration for everyone living in the home. All projects should be fully talked over with all members of the house, unless of course you couldn’t care less about what they think! Home improvement is a very serious topic especially if it is a large project that needs a lot of money invested and a lot of work done.
When choosing help for your home improvement projects slackers are not an option, neither are people who do not agree with what you are doing in the house, all they are likely to do is slow down or mess up what you are trying to do. A project should only be carried out when you have a free few days or however long it is going to take, there is no point embarking on a home improvement project if you are not able to finish the job. Also contractors should not be brought in unless you are going to be able to pay them! A home improvement project shouldn’t be something that bogs you down, it should be something that lifts your spirits!
To extend the swimming season after summer has come and gone, many people are turning to swimming pool heaters. A heater is great to have, especially with colder days. If you’ve thought about buying a heater for your swimming pool, there are probably a lot of things that you’ve found yourself wondering.
When using a pool heater, you can adjust the temperature of your pool water to virtually any level that you are comfortable with. The recommended temperature for a pool is 78 degrees, although most people prefer to have their water just a bit warmer, around 80 degrees. The choice is up to you, as you can’t really go wrong with either of the two.
During the year, the sun can only get your pool water so hot for a somewhat brief period of time. When summer ends and things start to cool off, your heater can help you make swimming last longer. If you live in the north, you can actually double your swimming season. Those living in warmer climates, such as Arizona and California can actually triple the amount of swimming by using a heater with their pool.
Even though you may be using a swimming pool heater, you should still invest in a swimming pool cover as well. A cover can help to protect against loss of heat from the pool, holding the heat of water inside the pool instead of letting it out. The fact is, a good cover that has plenty of insulation can actually reduce the amount of heat loss you experience with your water.
There are a few different types of heaters available, although gas fired heaters running off LP gas seem to be the most common. Heaters such as this are easily the least expensive to buy, and also the cheapest to run over time. Oil is another way to heat your pool, and it is common in areas that you are unable to buy gas fired heaters. Other pools choose to run off electricity. Electricity is a great way to heat your pool, although it can easily be the most expensive to run and take the most amount of time to properly maintain.
Last but not least, there’s the solar pool heater. Solar heaters may sound like the ideal way to heat a pool for some, simply because it uses the sun to heat, helping to save money. Even though it may sound like the ideal way to heat a pool, it actually has quite a few disadvantages when you compare it to other types of heaters. You’ll discover one flaw when you go to purchase one – you’ll see that they cost nearly half the amount of your swimming pool!
Even though solar powered heaters sound the best, they truly aren’t. To get the most out of a solar powered heater you’ll need to have large electric pump, which can cost you quite a bit of money. The pump delivers the water from your pool to the solar panels, which will in turn heat up the water. Once you have finished setting up a solar powered heater, you’ll have invested thousands in it – which makes it something you should really try to avoid.
In the world of swimming pool heaters, gas fired heaters remain the best and most cost efficient ways to heat a swimming pool. These heaters can be found locally, or on the Internet. They won’t cost you a lot of money to purchase, and they are very user friendly. Even if you are new to pool heaters – you won’t have any trouble using your new gas fired pool heater.
With most people, a vacuum cleaner isn’t really an inspiring machine. If you don’t care about how it
works, then you probably don’t want to vacuum to start with. At the same time, no one wants to live in a
pig sty or dirty home even.
These days however, things have began to change for the better, and people’s attitudes are changing as
well. Vacuum cleaners are becoming interesting and it’s all thanks to James Dyson, the inventor of the
Dyson vacuum cleaner.
All thanks to Dyson, vacuum cleaners have taken on a personality and life of their own. These very
same tactics are even employed by the likes of Apple to successfully ploy their iMacs and iPods to
the masses have now been used with tremendous results with vacuum cleaners.
Now, let’s take a look at the decision that faces you when buying a flashy vacuum cleaner. First of all, you have the choice between the upright or canister versions. The upright style of vacuum cleaners will require you to use them in the traditional push and pull fashion, although the latest vacuum from Tyson, the DC15, has even turned
this technology on its head with “Ball Technology” that will let you glide around your home with the
greatest of ease – in any direction you please.
Canister vacuum cleaners on the other hand come with a hose attachment for great control and flexibility, as you can quickly and easily get to all of the hard to reach places. There isn’t really a lot of difference between the two, and it’s mainly down to your personal preference, even though the upright vacuum is best suited to
You should also consider the power of the motor and efficiency of the filtration system as well.
Those that suffer from allergies will want to pay close attention to the filtration. Dyson for one has been very successful by marketing the benefits of its patented “Cyclone” technology, which doesn’t use a bag nor does it ever get clogged up.
If you feeling really daring and adventurous and want to stay ahead of the curve, you could go
for one of the very popular robotic vacuum cleaners such as the ZA01 from Electrolux or the cheaper
iRobot from Roomba. While you amuse yourself or do other things, the robot will move around your
home on it’s own will, vacuuming your entire home until it is spotless. The robot even has
the technology and intelligence to return to the base when it is running low on battery power and
If you want to be different and unique, a flashy vacuum cleaner is the way to go. There are many
different models and types to choose from, from cheap vacuums to those that cost hundreds of
dollars. All you have to do is meet your creative side halfway and let the fun begin!
